Oh 2020! What a year you have been!?!
Now I know what you’re thinking, “Good gosh here we go again with some positivity bullshit” but hear me out . Sure, generally speaking 2020 has been the year of “the virus.” It came, it ripped through cities, burned economies to the ground and leaves with it a trail of devastation and disruption. But 2020 has also been a year of retrospection, resilience and realisation.
It has laid bare the fragility of the very system we depend on to make our life decisions. It has changed the way we do things and while some are eager to go back to normal, I’m not even sure what normal is anymore, neither am I convinced that the way we did things before was the “ideal” way.
The crisis this year has also brought opportunity. Opportunity to reinvent oneself, to create something or someone new. I became a mom again, a teacher and a blogger. I battle my fears and I learn to adapt.
I’ve realised that the simple things in life are indeed the most extraordinary. Things like the sound of my childrens’ laugh or the view of the sky from my bedroom’s window. I’m relearning the art of doing nothing – taking a rare time out in this hyper aware world to relax my mind.
Know that with every new change, new tier, new lockdown, new protocol, there’s an opportunity to be explored, a silver lining to be embraced and the comforting prospect that there’s always something to be grateful for.
