In this post I will be sharing with you healthy breakfast ideas for children.
Hey there lovely people! I hope you guys are having a fantastic week! Getting healthy breakfast on the table for my child is one of my priorities every morning! Yet, in an attempt to get those extra snoozes in, I feel like I have been lacking on that front. Lately I’ve been feeling like we’ve hit a rut on the whole breakfast routine, serving up practically the same things week in and week out.
Recently I posted an article titled “10 Things Teachers wish Parents would do”. In that post the first thing was that teachers wish parents would give their children a healthy breakfast and lunch. So, I got to researching and suffice to say, the saying breakfast is the most important meal of the day is no joke. Science has shown that those who eat breakfast have a higher level of concentration and those that skip breakfast have a much bigger change at developing obesity (check out this study).
With this said, in an attempt to get fresh healthy breakfast ideas for children, I headed to my favorite social media platform (follow me on Pinterest here).
Healthy Breakfast Ideas for Children
Surprised my first suggestion is bread?!?! :). Start by choosing the right bread, like whole grain or seeded bread. Then top with a spread – peanut butter, cream/cottage cheese, avocado etc. and finish with fruit on top like bananas or strawberries or seeds/grains. Not only are these options nutritious but they are visually appealing as well! Alternatively you can use whole grain waffles or bagels as well.
Donuts! Just that word alone will score you some Mom points! A great alternative to bread, these apple donuts are easy to prepare and nutritious as well. All you need are some apples, yogurt and fruit. You can also top these off with some granola or toasted oats.
Definitely a favorite of ours! You can change these up as well by adding different types of fruit or by using dairy free milk.
Speaking of oats, try porridge bowls! Just top your porridge off with any fruit you like (good for getting in that 5 a day), honey, maple syrup, chia seeds, spices etc. Porridge on mornings is always quick and easy and is a good alternative to packaged cereals. The Work Top has made these porridge toppings quite appealing featuring names such as Carrot Cake, Pumpkin Pie and Gingerbread to name a few. Check them out.
What’s great about these egg muffins is that you can make them ahead. To get your five a day in, toss in some spinach/kale. Add some bacon or ham and I’m sure the children will love them!
